TOPICAL PROBLEMS OF THE ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHY IN BULGARIA

Summary

The economic geography of Bulgaria faces numerous problems of scientific and practical-applied importance closely related to the policy of the Bulgarian Communist Party for higher economic effectiveness of public production. One of them necessitates to evaluate more precisely the influence of natural conditions and resources on the territorial distribution of production and thus on its quality, quantity and prime cost. Specialists should work out such prognoses which will ensure a steady fall in labour input per unit output and increase of economic effectiveness.

To fulfil this task economic geography must be developed side by side with physical geography and economics. All complex physical geographical investigations should be carried out in accordance with economic geographical needs.

Another topical problem nowadays is to reveal the regularities which determine the way of formation, function and development of regional economic complexes on different taxonomic levels (region, subregion, microregion).

Attention is paid also to labour forces prognostications and to improvement of the settlement system’s configuration.

As aconstructive science economic geography will give impetus to further prosperity of the advanced socialist society.
