SOVIET GEOGRAPHY AND ITS INFLUENCE ON THE BULGARIAN CLIMATOLOGY AND CLIMATIC INVESTIGATIONS

Summary

Influenced by the Soviet climatology, having achieved an overall development after the period of Second World War, our climatologists succeeded considerably in climatic investigations of the country and thus contributed to the further development of Bulgarian climatology. Attention was paid mainly to the interaction between physical geographical factors and the local climate. In this respect the orography effect on passing through the country airstreams was highly appreciated. Complex climatology gained experience related to genesis and some peculiarity studies of the specific for our country weather types, as well is, to the local climate structure. On the other hand, microclimatology dealed first and foremost with such kind of investigations, which can be put into practice. In the field of applied climatology resort climatic investigations were of great interest due to the acknowledgment of Bulgaria as a tourist country.

All these tendencies of Bulgarian climatology and their development rely on personal contacts with the Soviet climatologists and on exchange of scientific literature.
