PROSPECTS FOR DEVELOPMENT OF THE WEEK-END RECREATION IN TERRITORIAL COMPLEX ,THE DANUBE RIVERSIDE

Summary

The favourable combination of a vast water area, inlets, terraces, stretches of sand, forests, cultural and historical monuments and other remarkable sights — all this contributes to converting the Danube riverside into one of the most attractive destinations for short term recreation on the part of the Northern Bulgarian population.

The material and technical base consists of a limited number of beds (around 600) in tourist rest houses and bungalows, which in territorial aspect do not answer to the requirements of the people.

According to the dynamic norms of the basic activities in the areas, designed for a short term recreation along the riverside, the building of a new material base with an approximate capacity of 17 000 beds is advisable.

The approximate size of the territories, due to be built on along the river bank, amount to 40/50 000 decares, according to our estimates.

Taking into account the fact that our people’s short term vacations are being carried out in definite izohrones, which exceed the scope of a village system, the balance of requirements and the available resources should be closed in groups of village systems.

A significant part of the estimated total number of the short term vacationers by 1990 will prefer the suburbs of the cities and the areas among the villages for heir short term holidays on the Danube riverside.
