(Summary)

The regime of those feeders of the Strouma river, which take their sourse from the Osogovo, Rila mountains and the region of Kraishte, have different characteristics due to some local peculiarities in the circulation of humidity. There is a marked vertical zonality of the hydrological conditions (water supply, feeding, annual fluctuations of river flow, water balance, etc.) in the Mt. Osogovo and North-Western Rila, rising steeply over the valleys of Kyustendil and Stanke Dimitrov. The rivers are typical for their annual and monthly flow fluctuations there. Numerous floodings, especially in summer, inundate the low arable land.

The circulation of humidity in the valleys of Kyustendil and Stanke Dimitrov and their surroundings is unfavourable for agriculture, so it is necessary to enlarge the area under irrigation and to introduce water spraying mainly. At present the available dams regulate not more than 48 million m³ of water. In the future the local conditions will necessitate to build up other dams both on the big and small tributaries of the Strouma river.

The underground waters are used inadequately. They are meant to supply towns with water. Most perspective in this respect are the karst and pore underground waters.
