GEOGRAPHICAL EDUCATION ON ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS

P. Vekilska

(Summary)

The author suggests that a comprehensive education related to nature and its conservation should take place in our secondary schools embracing the following components: environmental protective aims, matters for instruction on nature conservation presented by using proper forms and methods, training appliances and educative work.

The environmental protective goals studied by school geography are subordinate to the general school goals which on their part are dependent on state goals facing the social requirements. By learning geography pupils get familiar with those geographical objects, phenomena, processes and regularities which contribute to form their outlook, motives and interests in respect with the environmental protection, and thus to the right attitude towards nature and its resources.

Pupils must know which are the main pollutants of natural components and what measures should be taken to protect and regenerate nature. On the other hand, they are to realize the different possibilities in this respect under capitalism and socialism. Depending on the specifity of problems, training appliances and differentiated age mental abilities, certain forms and methods to organise adequately the educational process are carefully chosen. Educationists’ skill and the anxiety to improve their qualification will guarantee success in teaching pupils how to love and take care of nature.
