PROBLEMS OF THE APRICOT-GROWING IN THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF BULGARIA

(Summary)

The favourable soli and climatic conditions, the specialization in the frame work of Council of Economic Mutual Aid, the hightened demand on the world market, necessitates the extending of apricot-plantations in our country. It’s a fact, that a firm tendency toward a continues extending of areas for apricot-growing exists. The areas are about 100 thousand decares and the production of apricots—about 30 thousand tons.

The Agro-Industrial Complex ‘Druster’ which unites the agricultural activity on the territory of Silistra district, emerges as a main producer of apricots in Bulgaria. Here more than 40 per cent of the plantations are concentrated and more than 29 per cent of the general production are given. Lagre massives, from 100 decares to 5000 decares, are planted with apricot trees. New, modern industrial methods of production are put into practice here and great successes are achieved. Main producers of apricots are the branches of the district economy in the villages of Sitovo, Zafirovo, Nova Cherna, Ishirkovo, Alfatar and others.

A great number of the plants are young and not in the prime of ist fruitfulness, that is why, it’s expected that the percentage of the production of Silistra district will increase in the general production.

As a result of the specialization and the using of new industrial technologies, the apricot production is a profitable, high effective and perspective field of fruit growing in People’s Republic of Bulgaria.
