COMPLEX GEOGRAPHICAL ASSESSMENT OF THE HILLY AND MOUNTAINOUS ZONE IN BULGARIA

Summary

There are most favourable conditions to use the pastures in the hilly and mountainous zone where the accessibility to them is best in addition to their longest seasonal exploitation. This zone includes 70%—80% of the pasture reserves and the larger contingent of manpower. Many settlements are situated there. Some of them can serve as a base for building sheep-breeding farm complexes and for providing the population with jobs. Because of the comparatively poor accessibility to the pastures in the central and high mountainous regions and or the more severe climate which shortens the period for pastoral sheep-breeding, the effectiveness of their usage there is reduced. Suggestions have been made to give impetus to sheep-breeding in the open air in these regions.
