STATE AND PROBLEMS OF WATER SUUPPLY AND SEWERAGE IN THE MOUNTAIN SETTLEMENT SYSTEMS OF BULGARIA

Summary

Alongside with the demand of industry and agriculture the household economy also causes an increase in water consumption, claiming at the same time for adequate water of high properties. In order to supply the settlements with sufficient water quantities it is necessary; to bring the respective water resources in line with the hygienic requirements concerning potable water; to build a water-main; to invest capital for construction of water pipes and to involve construction organizations or teams in this activity. The settlement systems situated in different mountains show spatial diversity with respect to the total quantity of effectively used water by the population, industry and farming; the water consumption; the length of water pipes per unit of road network or of some other indicator. According to the forecasts, by 1895 and 1990 the settlement systems will mark a 1,5—5,0 — fold increase of potable water reserves.

Over 71 % of the urban areas have no sewerage available, most of them including the newly formed towns. To catch the waters polluted by industry and household economy and to purify them is of paramount importance in improving the urban development and environmental protection.
