FACTORS IMPROVING THE TRANSPORT LINKS BETWEEN THE COUNTRY MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL FOR MUTUAL ECONOMIC ASSISTANCE

Summary

The high rates of economic development and the versatile relations between the country members of Comecon are impossible without transport infrastructure, which is an important factor for a socialist labour division. Transport amenities give rise to stable integrational links in different sectors of material production.

Fuel, raw-material, metal, machine and some other needs of the socialist countries could be met by mutual exchange. The irregular spatial distribution of fuel and raw-materials which are localized mainly in the USSR specifies the structure of transport and economic links, notable for load transportation from the Soviet Union to the other states. The fact results in busy traffic along the south high roads of the European part of the USSR. Yet, there are possibilities to rationalize the cargo transportation throughout more effective territorial distribution of some modern equipments for export and import operations, implementation of scientific and technological achievements in transport and production spheres such as new technologies and containers, oil and gas pipelines, electronic transport facilities etc. They will cause changes in the cargo stream structure, will lessen the distance and time period for deliveries and thus will reduce the transport expenditure.
