Западнее г. Никополя в Дунай вливаются реки Осым, Олт, Сыюл и Вит. По правому склону долины р. Осыма и по левому склону р. Олтъ и Сыюла и релефе местности наблюдается порог, который начинается восточнее г. Левски (с. Червена) и продолжается на северо-запад  через Дунай и Влашкскую низменность до южных  подножий Карпат.

Река Осым у г. Левски делает крутой поворот, в районе коротого обнаруживаются низкие седловины, от которых берут свое начало широкие ассиметричные долины р. Барата и Студена река.

С помощью стратиграфического, тектонского и морфологического анализов этого района удалось у тановить крупное поднятие земной коры поперек р. Дуная в районе нижних течений р. Осыма, Олта и Сыюла. Это поднятие проходило с большой интенсивностью в период плейстоцена, когда образовался „горб“ в рельефе, названный. Осымскаим порогом. Поднятие оказало влияние на ориентировку поверхностных вод по направлению паралельному его оси и нашло свое отражение в рельефе Дунайской равнины и Влашской низменности.

Summary

The Ossum, Olt, Suyul, and Vit rivers flow into the Danube west of the town of Nikopol. Along the right-hand slope of the Ossum river and along the left-hand slope of the Olt and the Suyul river a rapid is outlined on the relief, starting east of the town of Levsky and running to the north- east, across the Danube and the Wallachian lowland as far as the southern foot of the Carpathian Mountains.

Near the town of Levsky the Ossum river forms a big bend in whose region appear some low saddlelike ridges, from which the broad, asymmetrically developed valleys of Baratta and Studena rivers stretch out.

By means of a stratigraphic, tectonic and morphologic analysis of this region is determined an elevation of the earth’s crust, transversal to the Danube and manifested in the lower course of Ossum and the Olt, Suyul river. This elevation was manifested with great intensity during the Pliocene period, forming a hump on the relief, called the Rapids of the Ossum. The elevation exerts an influence on the orientation of the surface flowing waters in a direction parallel to its axis, and is reflected upon the relief of the Danubian plain and the Wallachian lowland.
